Earthless meets Heavy Blanket – In a Dutch Haze (2014)

“Backed by the best rhythm section in today’s adventurous rock world β€” Mario Rubalcaba and Mike Eginton from Earthless β€” the quartet stormed the stage for what would become an incredible one-time happening, leading to almost a full hour of some of the most mind-bending heavy psych imaginable. The epic jam session gave birth to shredding psychedelia and hard rock blues underpinned by the muscular rhythmic sensibilities of kraut-rock and the unbridled energy of 70β€²s guitar rock. The formidable foundation laid by drummer Rubalcaba became a jumping off point for Mascis, Clise and Eighton to explore their inner cosmoi for consciousness-expanding riffs and music-induced psychedelic experiences.”

  1. Nice one, dude! Just got back from playin' the awesome Progadelic festival 'n' found this…Puts me in mind of the mighty Pink Fairies, which is no bad thing…awesome stuff! πŸ™‚

  2. Fair point, i'm as guilty as many others for soaking up the gems you offer and not commenting enough…thing is, with this little beauty its just too early to tell apart from the initial "wow, man!!" Its very good, but its a huge chunk of music that deserves a bit of attention paid to it. All round your new posts are excellent, and i'm glad you're back. Many thanks.

  3. So I bought the digital version of this, which includes (for some reason) all four tracks together as the hour long 5th track… and when you listen to this album and realize these guys are performing their ASSES off for over an hour…just the intense guitar and drums onslaught for an hour… it's simply staggering and AMAZING!!!!! Earthless I was well aware of already… but this caused me to pull out the Heavy Blanket CD and give it another listen.

Great stuff. Was this released AS Heavy Blanket or Heavy Blanket Meets Earthless?

  4. Thanks for posting this Earthless and I am glad you are back in the game. I bought this the day it came out. FANTASTIC! The only disappointing thing is that the great Isaiah Mitchell was unable to participate in this recording.

  5. Been listening to this recently after is was posted to Youtube in full. Its an astoundingly good live jam that i just love! Even though Isaiah Mitchell wasn't present i think both J Mascis and his Withc guitar cohort ably produce anough psych-tastic jamming to pull it all off. maybe next time Isaiah could join them both and make another recording! Anyone know anything about J Mascis storming off at the end of this show? The Youtube footage shows him smashing the drums with his guitar before throughing it down and walking off. I read a suggestion that J Mascis was annoyed with the drummer for not bringing it all to an end sooner, but not sure if thats true. Never thought J Mascis would be that type of person but you never know…

  6. This site has turned me on to more music that I truly LOVE than probably any other music blog. Thanks again for another great post.

  7. Still great to see a website that blogs so well with links to samples so you can try before you buy. I agree with everyone here I should have commented more often. But quite often there is so much going on, its hard to keep track. Keep up the great work its so much appreciated. Great to hear other people's take on what I consider to be the finest sonic rock there is. A truely dynamic gold mine for psych rock…..
